Matthew 25 Workshop

Matthew 25 Workshop
Sunday, October 11, 2020, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

PCIS Session voted to become a Matthew 25 church. This study will provide background to that decision. It will be organized as a workshop with small group
discussion of Matthew 25. Matthew 25 has three parts. The first part is the parable of
the ten bridesmaids. The second is the parable about the master, three servants and the
talents. The third part concerns a saying of Jesus about the final judgment of the sheep
and the goats and how they treat the “least of these”. Groups will return from Zoom
breakout rooms to one Zoom room to discuss the three commitments of a Matthew 25
church:
1. Building congregational vitality by deepening and energizing our faith and growing
as joyful leaders and disciples actively engaged with our community as we share the
gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed;
2. Dismantling structural racism by fearlessly applying our faith to advocate and break
down the systems, practices and thinking that underlie discrimination, bias,
prejudice and oppression of people of color;
3. Eradicating systemic poverty by acting on our beliefs and working to change laws,
policies, plans and structures in our society that perpetuate economic exploitation
of people who are poor.
